August 27, 2018

The Department of English at Dhempe College, Miramar organized the fifth edition of  “Carpe Diem”, the department’s initiation event for the first year students recently. The Teachers and students donned the garbs of the dark souls of literature. The Head of the Department, Professor Clarinda Dias, Dressed as The Sea Witch Ursula, set the mood for the day with an enthusiastic welcome address. The Department faculty were dressed in their darkest best- Akshata Bhatt as The Queen of Hearts, Palia Pandit as Bane, Tara Saldanha as the Evil Queen in disguise and Gauravi Khaunte as Wednesday. While the first year students transformed into doppelgangers of  characters such as Harlequin, Boogieman, Valak, Poison Ivy, Belatrix Lestrange and Maleficent that created an atmosphere of horror in the hall, the Principal, Dr Vrinda Borker, reminded everyone to look for the good amidst evil too. The Department seniors put up an opening act following which they organized a couple of activities and spot prizes for the first year students. The students then participated in a cosplay which was judged by the departments ex students. The event was a successful attempt to introduce the spirit, unity and enthusiasm of the department to the fresher’s. The students were presented with animated bookmarks as mementos for the day.
