Intercollegiate Debate Competition: A Resounding Tribute to International Mother Language Day
On March 6, 2025, DCT’s Dhempe College of Arts and Science and Ganga Zuari Academy jointly hosted an intercollegiate debate competition to commemorate International Mother Language Day. The event brought together 10 finalists from various colleges, who presented their insightful perspectives on topics related to education in mother language and the impact of artificial intelligence on multilingualism.
The debate witnessed a convergence of diverse disciplines, including sociolinguistics, law, psychology, geopolitics, and neurocognition. The participants showcased their erudite views, demonstrating a deep understanding of the complex issues at hand.
Prof. Bhushan Bhave graced the Valedictory Ceremony as the Chief Guest and spoke about the immediate need to develop native languages with the meaningful aid of technology. The judges were Ms. Sobita Kudtarkar, Mr. Shwetang Naik, and Ms. Veda Dessai.
The prize winners were:
1. First Place: Vaishnavi S and Abigail D’Souza from VM Salgaocar College of Law
2. Second Place: Neha Upadhye and Kajal Naik from Vidya Prabodhini College, Porvorim
3. Third Place: Sukanya Watve and Vandita Harmalkar from DCT’s Dhempe College of Arts and Science
