Applied Genetics deals with the study of genetic systems in prokaryotic as well as eukaryotic organisms. Additionally, this course also elaborates the various modern techniques to separate, identify, visualize and map DNA sequences or chromosomes in the genomes of various organisms. These techniques help in identification of species at the molecular level or may even help in the field of medical sciences to diagnose diseases, etc.

The sub topic Evolution deals with the study of evolution of animals since the beginning of life on earth. The various hypotheses and theories that were formulated to explain how evolution came about, with evidences from fossils, radiodating experiments, genetic basis etc, is dealt with thoroughly in this course. The mechanisms involving the the formation of new species from a single species is also taught in detail in this course.
