This course deals with the use and importance of biotechnology in our lives. Biotechnology which involves the use of prokaryotic and eukaryotic systems for various applications such as in industrial processes for the production of foods and bevarages or in the field of medicine for the production of vaccines and in gene therapy for the production of synthetic hormones, enzymes (for replacement therapies).  A variety of techniques that are employed in biotechnology for the purpose of screening recombinants, labelling DNA, sequencing DNA, production and insertion of plasmids are also dealt with in detail in this course.
