The Department of Political Science, DCT’s Dhempe College (Autonomous), Miramar, successfully organised a one-day training programme titled, “Human Rights in Focus: Theory, Law, and Practice,” with financial support from the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), New Delhi. The programme brought together legal experts, academicians, faculty members, and students for a day of deliberations on contemporary human rights issues. The programme was inaugurated by Mr. Samir Kumar, Joint Secretary, NHRC, who addressed the gathering as Chief Guest. The Principal of Dhempe College, Prof. (Dr.) P.S. Ramu Murthy, and Vice Principal Dr. Swati Pawar also addressed the gathering and highlighted the importance of organising such meaningful events.
The academic sessions featured four eminent resource persons. Mr. Pramod V. Kamat, Former District & Additional Sessions Judge, Former Law Secretary of the State of Goa, and Member, Goa Human Rights Commission, spoke on “Judiciary as a Watchdog of Human Rights.” Dr. Jitendra Aherkar, Director, Academy for Lifelong Learning, Atmiya University, Rajkot, Gujarat, delivered a session on “Advancing Women’s & Children’s Rights.” Adv. Emidio Pinho, Founder-Director, SCAN (Stop Child Abuse Now), addressed “Strengthening Child Protection Systems: The Contribution of NGOs in Child-Related Cases and Process.” Prof. Rahul Tripathi, Professor, Department of Political Science, D.D. Kosambi School of Social Sciences and Behavioural Studies, Goa University, spoke on “Human Rights in the Global Context: Challenges of Advocacy & Implementation.”
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members and students from colleges across Goa, providing a valuable platform for dialogue on human rights, law, and public policy. Dr. Karuna Singh, Program Coordinator and In-Charge, Department of Political Science expressed sincere gratitude to the National Human Rights Commission for its financial support, which made the successful organisation of the programme possible, and thanked all the resource persons and participants for their valuable contributions.
